Entry for August 17, 2006

I like this dragon. Doesn't he look so nifty, protecting his rock?

Tonight, I attended KitKat's junior high orientation. She has a friend in every class! Her friends, a set of twins, are either or both in her classes, all but one. She's excited. I'm excited. All her teachers seem to be goal oriented and want to weight the classes to reflect the kids who try their best, but still leave room for the very intense, motivated ones to advance to the top. Extra credit seems to be the incentive of choice nowadays, getting above and beyond the 100% requirement. I like a little competition in the classroom, though, but KitKat is just out to learn as much as she can at the rate she can learn it. Just one little thought starts a chain of events, leading her to my desk with an open book and a young mind just begging for Mom's expertise on Google searches, unlimited dictionaries, et al. One of the reasons I love working from home, yes?

Mr. Sapphire asked if I wanted to move my office to the back of the house. After a very short contemplation, I decided against it. My office is in my bedroom. With the way our house is shaped, it's one big circle. It's a little inconvenient sometimes, because we only have one door, and the other entryway is wide open, but the most important fact here is that the Cubs roam in and out of my room all day long. We actually talk more in this fashion. I'm always here. They pop in and out, chat, and go back on their way, and I go back to work. I tend to do my rote stuff first, so pulling me out of concentration isn't an issue. I save the hard stuff for when they go to bed or the next morning.

IMs are great, too. I like to buzz Tiger's Eye and scare him out of his chair. He's quite fond of that...really. He is.

It's 3:00 a.m. and that's my cue to hit the hay. I get to sleep right in front of the air conditioner and that's very okay with me. Toodles!
